About us

The association “World Heritage Sites in Sweden” was founded in 2003 at a meeting in the City Museum of the world heritage city Raumo in Finland. For a membership its required to be a World Heritage site in Sweden. Therefore no more than 15 members can be included at present.

The site Engelbergs Ironworks is not a member in the association.

The main purpose of the association is to increase the awareness in the general public and gain appreciation and respect for this cultural and natural heritage by education and information.

The Wooden Town of Raumo in Finland have played an important part for the co-operation concerning the World Heritage Sites in Sweden. Here the idea of the Swedish World Heritage Group was developed.
