The Nordic World Heritage Network
After an initiative from the National Board of Antiquities in Finland and the National Heritage Board in Sweden in 1995 representatives from the World Heritage Sites in the Nordic Countries assembled at the Fortress of Sveaborg, Helsinki, in order to change experiences. Since that year the Nordic World Heritage Network have gathered once a year to learn from each other through lectures and discussions. The meeting is alternating between the Nordic countries and Iceland joined the network in 2004 since Thingvellir as the first site on Iceland was inscribed in the World Heritage List.
